November 16, 2005 15:01Announce: 1060 NetKernel v3.0.0 Preview 4
Product: 1060 NetKernel Standard Edition
Version: 3.0.0 Preview 4

1060 Research are pleased to announce the Preview 4 release of 1060 NetKernel version 3.0.0.  This release completes the technical preview program and incorporates the final technical feature set

What''s new in preview-4?

New for this release is a cron scheduler with both absolute- and relative-time job firing. A fully revised unit testing framework allows dynamic installation, discovery, execution and reporting of test services.

Extensive work has been done to optimize the 3.0.0 performance characteristics.   Performance gains have been found in the XRL language recursion algorithm, the default system cache and optimizations of frequently called tight loops in the kernel.  Typically applications can gain around 2x performance improvement when compared with execution on previous Netkernel systems.

The cache optimizations include a dynamic soft scoping algorithm which allows the cache to self-tune to suit available JVM heap memory   This has several advantages, notably, the average dynamic cache size is many times larger than in previous releases and scales with available JVM heap, and, it is now impossible to create JVM heap overflows with bad manual cache configurations.

Numerous other enhancements and updates are provided including: RDBMS accessor support for stored-procedures,  class trace tool and component shutdown lifecycle hooks.

The reference documentation has been reviewed and restructured to bring it up-to-date and to provide easier navigation.  The introductory and tutorial documentation is not yet completed and will ship with the final 3.0.0 release in early 2006.
