RDF Library

We've recently posted an RDF library module for NetKernel. The library provides a toolset for working with RDF models. It consists of utility services for parsing and serializing the RDF serializations including XML/RDF, N3 and N-Triple syntax.

Once parsed the RDF models are represented as Jena Models and with a NetKernel resource aspect IAspectJenaModel. A range of tools are provided for manipulating models - these are divided into Set operations and Query/update operations.

Working with RDF as a high-level resource type with a broad service toolchain makes it very quick to compose together RDF processing systems.

Thanks to Los Alamos National Labs for input to this work - and for choosing NetKernel for their Digital Library federation system.

As ever, let us know how you get on...

1060 NetKernel v3.0.0 Preview 2

We've posted the second preview release of 3.0.0. This release is now the preferred production platform as it includes a workaround for a JVM bug in the URLClassLoader which leaves open native OS file handles when pulling resources from jars - this can cause problems for very large scale high-volume production systems.

There is a new LDAP library shipped with this release and a new RDF library is available for install. In addition there are a number of updates to the back-end apps/tools - possibly of most value is the addition of fine-grained application logs.

All that remains to complete for the final release is cosmetics and restructuring of the introductory documentation and trailmaps - so in effect, this is the technical production release.

LDAP / DSML Library

I've just posted the first public release of our LDAP library for NetKernel.

I've also put up a simple Directory Services Markup Language (DSML) reference

The speed with which you can now write scripts to query and update LDAP directories is pretty cool.

1060 NetKernel Standard Edition v3.0.0 Preview 1

We have shipped the first preview release of NetKernel 3.0.0 - the core technologies are production stable and ready to go. The difference between this and the final release, which will be in the autumn, are new admin tools, docs and look-n-feel. We also have RDF and LDAP libraries to come.

Most significant new features are

Support for Python as as first-class language - Python path is now found within the NetKernel address space. Scripts are dynamically compiled to bytecode and cached in the NK cache. Dependencies are detected and managed even for Python class/module imports.

Other good stuff - all low-level libraries are updated, updated RDBMS tools, improved dependency cost accumulation, more efficient cache algorithm, new dependency visualization tools plus lots more.

RimuHosting Xen-based Virtual Servers

We've just migrated a number of our applications (including this blog app) over to RimuHosting. These guys provide an excellent choice in flexible hosting solutions and back it up with knowledgeable and efficient support.

They will be happy to help set up NetKernel hosting for eval and production - just mention that you are using NetKernel.
