25Jun Mon2007 | OS maintenance (planned)
Whenever you shut down Windows server 2003 R2, the dialog box
gives you a list of reasons why, which can presumably be used for
later analysis of what causes system reboots.
Only while there is OS Configuration changes (planned) and
application maintenance (planned), there is no option for "OS
maintenance monthly security updates". Which is odd, because
rebooting after the monthly updates is pretty much mandatory, and
those monthly updates are pretty much a given (whereas on ubuntu
linux there's a continual background trickle of pending patches
appearing on no specific schedule).
So why isnt there somewhere in the drop down list an option to
say the reboot is to patch the OS. There is "security issue", but
that has more of a panic associated with it. It's almost is if
somebody didn't want to collect the data...
